Paula recently celebrated 15 YEARS with OSS!
If you’ve never visited our Dupont Road location then you may have never had the pleasure of meeting Paula. Paula joined our team in 2005 and is part of our financial team as well as handling many of our “secretarial” (isn’t that an outdated term) duties. She is one of our main contacts with insurance companies; she verifies benefits and follows-up on outstanding claims. She also processes a majority of our outgoing correspondence. For many years, she was Dr. Gene’s right-hand and he greatly appreciated her compassionate attention to his outside appointments, travel arrangements and dinner reservations.
Paula was raised in Fort Wayne, except for the three years she lived in Chicago as a young child. She started working at the age of 15 in a downtown Fort Wayne restaurant, Hobby House. She said most of us have probably never heard of it, but she’s sure you know someone else who worked there…Dave Thomas – the founder of the Wendy’s fast food franchise. He was a baker at Hobby House before Wendy’s was even thought of! Paula attended Snider High School and Ivy Tech for college. She graduated as a Medical Secretary; which is now referred to as an “administrative clerk”.
Paula enjoys riding bikes, going for walks and traveling; especially to anywhere that is warm. She visits her sister, who resides in Florida, every chance she gets. Paula has been married to her husband, Kirk, for 29 years. She has 5 children and 14 grandchildren. She’s grateful that she gets to see them often and greatly enjoys their family get-togethers. Kirk and Paula also have a toy poodle, Daisy, who is “in charge” of their home!
Paula enjoys her sewing room immensely, and sometimes even get projects completed! Her favorite past time (aka: therapy) is shopping for fabric. She’s always telling Kirk that she’s planning for retirement with all her fabric…just in case she doesn’t have money when she retires. She enjoys revamping “vintage” furniture and she can’t pass by an ice cream parlor…she prefers to stop and evaluate the product. HA!
Paula is a loyal friend and has a great laugh. We enjoy the spirit she brings to the office, and we appreciate all of the duties, both large and small, that she does on a daily basis. Congrats, Paula, on celebrating 15 YEARS with OSS!
