In case you missed it, we posted a contest on our Facebook Page celebrating National Teddy Bear Day. Today we are announcing the correct answers to the contest and the winner of the $50 gift card to Build-A-Bear Workshop!
Each team member wrote a short story about their beloved animal/doll:
Robin:
Old Josh was a gift to my sister when she born. I was 2 years old at the time, but I loved him and thought he was mine. A couple years later we started fighting over him, so my parents went out and bought a second teddy bear for my sister. She wanted to name hers Josh, too; therefore, I got Old Josh and she got New Josh.
Lindsey:
My mom gave me the Precious Moments rabbit as an infant. I always kept it on my shelf in my room and then stored it away until we moved to our new house and now my daughter, Adalynn, sleeps with it at night. I also received a blanket from my grandmother when I was an infant. I slept with it every night until I was 5 or 6 years old; then I lost it and couldn’t find it anywhere! My mom found it between my bed and wall but didn’t tell me until I was in high school.
Kristy:
I got this doll from Santa on my first Christmas, because it looked like me. Now it looks a little scary! LOL!! Even though it is a bit frightening, my 3 year old daughter still plays with it. HA!
Rhonda:
I will be the first to admit that it’s absolutely absurd that I still have this bear. I have no memories of growing-up with him and I asked my older sisters for help in providing an emotional attachment. My sister with the best memory made-up a story that his name was Domino and he was “loved and loved.” His music box still plays, but he’s shedding hair. He’s certainly not something that my children want to inherit, so I don’t think that “Domino” will be returning to the top of the memory cabinet.
Becca:
My bear was gifted to me in 3rd grade right before my bestie moved to California. I call him Mr. Bear (real original, right?!). It’s called a “wish bear” and on his foot it says “courage”. It was intended to help me when I missed her. <3 I still sleep with him when I’m sick and my son, Emmitt, likes to steal him sometimes too because he’s almost as big as him!
Katie:
Oh, sweet Benji. I watched the movie Benji when I was 8 years old and wanted my own. He was gifted to me, but I can’t remember from whom. He was my constant companion for years and as you can see he’s well loved! I still have him all these years later and don’t see that changing anytime soon.
