I was overjoyed to have straight teeth as a teen and to never need orthodontics. Then during my first year of college, my lower central teeth started to overlap slightly. I easily hid those crooked teeth behind my lip for 40 years and only my hygienist knew my secret.
About 2 years ago, I noticed that my lower teeth were starting to shift more. I commented about it within the office and someone told me that is was an “age” thing. “Great! Just one more reminder that I’m growing old. Even though I’ve worked with Dr. Aron for almost 14 years, I’d never seriously considered fixing my 2 lower teeth until it started to look like a traffic jam and they became extremely difficult to keep clean.
I decided that “if” I was going to have braces, I was going to do it right. I had an old filling that my dental office had wanted to restore for some time, but the time was never right for me. So….it was time to take care of that tooth. I was able to get it restored prior to the COVID shutdown and then waited for my semi-annual cleaning appointment. At that appointment, the dentist looked at my lower central teeth and sarcastically asked if I knew a good orthodontist. Hmmm….
I jumped in with both feet. Within 2 weeks of the cleaning, I had photos and x-rays, met with Dr. Aron for my treatment plan, and got upper and lower braces (I’ll go into more detail on that process in my next post). I have to admit that when I stood-up from the clinic chair and ran my tongue over my teeth, I questioned, “What have I done?” Oh well, I’m not turning-back now.
Here’s the best thing that’s happened in the first week of having braces: I don’t feel the need to snack anymore. If you snack, then you brush your teeth and I don’t need to brush my teeth several more times a day….5 times a day is enough for me. I’ve actually lost a few pounds from not snacking; if I can “kill 2 birds with 1 stone” (straight teeth and lose some weight) that will be even better.
If you’ve ever considered having braces, there’s no better time than now! Contact our office and we can have you on your journey to a “Genuine Smile” within the next few weeks.
Rhonda, I had the same feeling for awhile after I got them put on, “what have I done?…” But I absolutely love seeing the results! I cant wait to see the end results!
Selena, I’m so happy to hear that you love looking at your results. I’m already asking myself why I waited so long, because the quick changes are so encouraging. -Rhonda
